xplace installs automatic traffic light system at Decathlon for the self-service checkouts

An AI-based digital signage traffic light system from xplace GmbH shows vacant self-service checkouts in the newly opened Decathlon store in Weiterstadt, Germany. The sensors developed by the Göttingen-based specialist for the digitalisation of the POS track whether a cash register is vacant or occupied. Digital signage screens automatically switch to "green" for "vacant" or "red" for "occupied".

"With the automatic traffic light system from xplace, our customers can immediately see from the colour of the displays which cash register is vacant. This service makes shopping faster, easier and more relaxing", says Ronald Stark, store manager at Decathlon Weiterstadt.

This automatic system is particularly suitable for this store, as the store layout doesn't make it easy to overlook the self-service checkout area. If required, staff can also switch the displays manually.

"This simple and effective traffic light system works with a sensor developed by xplace, which is suitable for many data driven applications" adds Marco Wassermann, CEO and co-founder of xplace. "With the acquired data we develop suitable solutions for the service or process issues of retailers and manufacturers. In this way we can further advance omnichannel retail at the POS".
